A Versatile Career Path

The Evaluation & Organizational Learning master’s serves as a pathway to a rewarding career focused on advancing an equitable and just society through program, organization and systems learning and change.

This 36-credit program will prepare you to work as an evaluation professional in a variety of settings, including education, foundations and nonprofits, government, public health, social work, public administration, environmental science, business and industry, international development and criminal justice.

Program Overview

We welcome creative, curious, critical thinkers from any disciplinary background to join our learning community and the evaluation field.

Our mission is to build capacity to do and use evaluation for program, organization, and systems learning and change. We are committed to:

  • Advocating for evaluation in service of common good and an equitable, just society
  • Impacting the evaluation field through teaching, innovating, creating, and sharing our work
  • Providing a pathway to university-based evaluator education in the evaluation profession

The Evaluation & Organizational Learning program is a concentration in the M.S. in Instructional Technology. Although we work in partnership, there is a distinct program of study for the concentration. 

Student Learning Outcomes

Through 36 credits students will:

  • Apply the fundamental norms and values underlying evaluation practice, including the standards, guidelines and competencies of the discipline
  • Demonstrate awareness of self as an evaluator (knowledge, skills, and dispositions) and reflect on personal evaluation practice (competencies and areas for growth)
  • Act and interact ethically through evaluation practice that demonstrates integrity and respect for all people
  • Apply evaluation theory, approaches and methodologies
  • Address evaluation context, including the unique circumstances, multiple perspectives, and changing settings of evaluations and their users/stakeholders
  • Facilitate evaluation use and capacity building
  • Manage the evaluation, including developing proposals and contracts, resource allocation and coordination, and monitoring progress
  • Apply effective interpersonal skills, including communication, facilitation, collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Engage in culturally responsive evaluation practice, including addressing issues of privilege and power, and facilitating constructive and culturally responsive interactions throughout the evaluation

Program Advisory Board

The Evaluation Programs Advisory Board engages multidisciplinary and diverse perspectives. Members serve as thought partners, advocates and ambassadors. They include university faculty, evaluation experts and practitioners, and current students. They provide input and feedback related to program goals, activities and materials.
