Educational Studies Minor Program Overview

Interdisciplinary Approach

Our interdisciplinary minor in Educational Studies is offered to students in all majors who are interested in issues of education but do not wish to pursue teacher licensure. It can be a valuable program addition for students pursuing careers in the social and behavioral sciences, social justice, youth services or other fields.

Training & Experience

The minor draws on a wide range of disciplines such as History, Philosophy, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Gender and Cultural Studies, and Comparative and International Studies. Students will develop a knowledge base that encourages their development into informed and socially engaged stakeholders who have essential skills to critically engage in research, education and diverse communities.

Our faculty is comprised of experienced educators who are engaged in local communities and committed to your success. Several courses in the minor partially or completely satisfy university studies requirements.

How Do I Apply?

UNCW students in any field of study are eligible for the Educational Studies minor. To declare the minor:

  1. Consult with your advisor.
  2. Log onto MySeaport and click on the Academics tab at the top of the screen.
  3. Select the "Major Declaration/Curricular Updates" link, located under the Student Services menu on the left side of the screen.
  4. Read and follow instructions to declare a minor.
  5. Click "Add minor/ cluster" link. Make selections from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click "Submit Changes" button.
