Curriculum Studies Program Overview

Transform Learning Experiences

Our licensure program is designed to provide current and future curriculum leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to imagine, design and transform the learning experiences of a diverse population of students through new approaches to pedagogy, learning and community engagement.

WCE’s Add-on licensure program in curriculum studies focuses on:

  • Pedagogy: Critical questioning and analyzing traditional curriculum and its implications on educating diverse learners in classrooms and communities.
  • Learning: Engage in activities that model ways to include local knowledge and collaboratively generate meaning and which give way to multi-dimensioned connections to content.
  • Community Engagement: Bridge research and practice as you integrate academic and community research, enabling experienced locals to contribute to curriculum goals and development.

Developing Leaders in Education and Beyond

WCE’s Curriculum Studies programs are designed for classroom teachers, school administrators, teacher educators and other professionals in a variety of educational settings including museum and nonprofit organizations who are interested in enhancing the learning experiences of diverse learners.

  3. Master's Degree: Must hold a master's degree
  4. Licensure: Must hold or be qualified to hold a NC class "A" teacher licensure in a least one area of education.
  5. Teaching Experience: 3 years of teaching experience required.
  6. Financial Aid:  Non-federal loans are available for this program.  Admitted students may apply through the UNCW Scholarship Application to be considered for additional scholarships.  Please consult your Financial Aid Counselor for further details.
  7. Visa Sponsorship:  This program does not qualify for visa sponsorship.
