Evolutionary Studies Minor

Explore Concepts in Evolution from an Interdisciplinary Perspective

Our Alumni Pursue:

High school science teachers can help students appreciate the complexities of evolutionary theory by using examples from different disciplines.

Alumni working in forensics, earth sciences, psychology, neuroscience, or biology laboratories can use their knowledge from different perspectives to assist with research related to evolution.
The minor is excellent preparation for graduate school and specialized study.

Learn To

Integrate foundational knowledge about evolution across disciplines

Apply evolutionary principles to the humanities and social sciences in addition to the natural sciences.

Critically evaluate topics related to evolutionary theory.

Evolutionary Studies Minor Overview

Students in this interdisciplinary minor will enrich their knowledge about evolution by integrating different viewpoints across disciplines. Students will consider the significance of evolution not only from a scientific perspective but also in relation to human life and culture, including our philosophical, religious, historical, artistic, and literary modes of reflection.

The minor is relevant for students with diverse interests in areas such as anthropology, biology, neuroscience, paleontology, human and animal behavior, and history of science. The interdisciplinary approach will stimulate students’ recognition of multiple viewpoints and understanding of how and to what extent these perspectives complement or compete with one another.
