At a high level, statisticians are professionals who apply statistical methods and models to real-world problems. They gather, analyze, and interpret data to aid in many business decision-making processes.

Financial managers perform data analysis and advise senior managers on profit-maximizing ideas. They create financial reports, direct investment activities, and develop plans for the long-term financial goals of their organization.

Budget analysts prepare budget reports and monitor spending. Budget analysts help public and private organizations plan their finances. They prepare budget reports and monitor organizational spending.

A risk management specialist is a role appointed within organizations to identify potential risks that might negatively affect the business. This role has traditionally focused on financial risks.

Marketing Managers are responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategic marketing plans for an organization in order to attract potential customers and retain existing ones.

This program is an opportunity for students who excel in business analytics to pursue a specialized master’s program. The combined program will benefit students in several ways:

Waiver of the graduate application fee and admission to the MSBA program (pending completion of MSBA program admission requirements)

Allows six credit hours of graduate course work to satisfy six credit hours of undergraduate concentration requirements

Avoids some duplication of content between undergraduate and graduate courses

What are the benefits of the program?

This combined bachelor’s/master’s degree program is designed to provide qualified students the opportunity to complete both degree programs in under 5 years. A student will earn a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems and an M.S. in Computer Science & Information Systems (MSCSIS).

What is the program like?

Twelve hours of courses taken at the 500-level will be dual-counted towards both degrees. Upon completion of the B.S. degree, students have the option to apply to the graduate school and continue progress towards the MSCSIS degree. 

Students take courses in the Cameron School of Business and the College of Science and Engineering.

Steps for Admission to Combined Programs

  1. Undergraduate Application: If you are not a current UNCW student, submit the appropriate application to the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
  2. Communicate: Communicate your interest to participate in the combined program with your undergraduate advisor and the coordinator of the graduate program. This includes reviewing the process to be considered for the combined program and discussing when to apply to the Graduate School.
  3. Combined Program Approval: The graduate coordinator will review your request to participate in the combined program. Approval to apply for the combined program does not guarantee admission to the Graduate School.
  4. Junior Year: During your junior year, you will work with your undergraduate advisor and the coordinator of the graduate program to identify which graduate courses you may take as an undergraduate student.
  5. Senior Year: During your senior year, you will work with the graduate program coordinator to obtain approval to take graduate courses as an undergraduate student.
  6. Graduate School Application: UNCW's Graduate School requires that your bachelor's degree be awarded prior to the first day of graduate classes for the term that you begin the master's degree program. Apply to take graduate classes for the term you begin the master's program.
