Alumni are employed as:

Teach Spanish at a community college or university.

Teach Spanish at the K-12 levels in a private school, or if licensed, at a public school.

Teach English abroad or in the U.S. to speakers of other languages (requires licensure at the K-12 public schools level).

Interpret or translate in medical, educational, legal and community fields (may require separate certification).

Work in Student Affairs at a university, meeting the needs of prospective and current Latinx students.

Learn To

Raise the level of communicative competence of native and non-native speakers of Spanish

Train professionals ready to work and interact with the Latinx population in the U.S. and abroad

Increase, improve and promote cultural understanding and awareness of regional, national and international Spanish-speaking communities

Provide knowledge and advanced skills in the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures necessary for higher-level graduate work

Provide critical and practical skills necessary for analyzing, assessing and addressing academic and societal issues related to Hispanic cultures

    The Master of Arts in Teaching in Spanish is designed for people who are seeking licensure to teach in elementary or secondary schools.

    Spanish or Hispanic Studies, Ph.D.

    Continue your studies by pursuing a doctorate in Spanish or Hispanic Studies. You will complete advanced coursework in the field along with a dissertation on a topic of your interest.

    Master of Public Health

    Use your advanced knowledge of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures by pursuing a degree in public health, where you will be able to apply these skills in the community.

    Physician Assistant

    Consider going to school to become a physician assistant, where you'll be able to incorporate your experience with the language in the health care field.
