Political Science, B.A.

Examine Political Phenomena Through the Lens of the Scientific Method

Follow our alumni with careers as:

Chosen by voters to create and administer laws and policies at the local, state, and national levels.

Hired or appointed by local, state, or federal governments to help develop and implement the full range of public policies.

Manage or advise election and public policy campaigns.

Conduct research on public opinion to drive election campaigns or learn what’s important to voters.

Raise money for political campaigns, nonprofit organizations, or other causes.

Serve as spokespeople for candidates, organizations, or agencies, shaping messages and working with media.

Manage non-government organizations that advocate for policy, provide education, or serve people in need.

Advise clients on their rights, prepare legal documents, and represent clients in court or other proceedings (our major, and especially the pre-law minor, positions students to apply to law school after graduation).

Learn To

Build a foundation in American politics, international relations, and related fields.

Analyze political puzzles by collecting and analyzing evidence.

Offer novel solutions to complicated real-world problems.

Build skills necessary to develop, promote, and implement public policy.

Effectively communicate with the public, politicians and practitioners.

This department has pushed me as a scholar to research carefully, to think critically, and always view the world around me as a skeptic. After completing this degree, I have a far more worldly view and I feel better prepared not only to pursue a law degree but to live as an educated citizen.
