Become a Great Teacher

The teacher licensure program will help you gain the knowledge and skills needed to serve in educational leadership roles. You will learn to make consistent, defensible and appropriate decisions to help students achieve expected learning outcomes in Spanish.

Reading, Writing, Speaking

Students are taught to converse in social situations on a range of topics. You will read short stories, news items, bibliographical information, social notices, personal correspondence and business letters and conduct research. Take notes and write correspondence, narratives, descriptions and analytical essays — all in Spanish!

Internships and Service Learning

Our program has agreements with several agencies in the region to receive student interns, which provide you with practical experience involving observation and application of foreign language.

Spanish, B.A. with Teacher Licensure

A grade of “C-” or better is required in each course counted toward the major and a “C” (2.00) average or better for all courses counted toward the major. You must also satisfy the professional education requirements of the Watson College of Education.

For information on the Teacher Education Program admissions criteria and the courses required for licensure in North Carolina, see the Watson College of Education in the undergraduate catalogue. If you are planning to pursue licensure, you should apply to the Watson College of Education as soon as admissions requirements are met (typically your sophomore year) and plan your program in regular consultation with your advisor. Teacher licensure requirements are established at the state level and may be changed by the state at any time.
