Admission Requirements

Students desiring admission into the baccalaureate program in respiratory therapy at UNCW must seek admission to the UNCW and meet the minimum criteria for UNCW’s transfer eligibility requirements. Candidates must produce official transcripts from all post-secondary work. Minimum criteria for acceptance into the program include an earned associate degree from a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapy program. Proof of current RRT credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care and be in good standing. Proof of current and valid respiratory care practitioner state license. Proof of current BLS/CPR for health care providers certification. In addition to university studies requirements and Respiratory Therapy requirements, students must take elective courses to satisfy the university requirement of a minimum of 120 hours. 

All students wishing to major in Respiratory Therapy must meet the minimum criteria for admission and follow the Respiratory Therapy application procedure which includes timely submission of the Respiratory Therapy application packet.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be admitted into the RRT-BSRT Online Accelerated Program:

1. Meet UNC system high school minimum course requirements (Applicants who are 21 years of age or older or who have completed 24 hours of transferable undergraduate credits are exempt from this requirement)
2. Have completed or enrolled in 24 transferable undergraduate credit hours.
3. Have a cumulative 2.4 college GPA.
4. Be eligible to return to the last institution attended.
5. Earned an associate degree from a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapy program
6. Possess a current, valid, and unencumbered respiratory care license

The Online Accelerated Programs application is available through the UNCW Application Portall. Please carefully select your desired start term on the application. After applying, any modifications to the start term can only be made by reapplying. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Admissions.

Application fees are currently waived for students applying to the RRT-BSRT program.

Transcripts and Materials

The Office of Admissions requires the following official transcripts:

• An official high school transcript showing your date of graduation or proof of a GED or Adult High School Diploma (not required for applicants who have already completed a Bachelor’s degree and are seeking a second Bachelor's degree)
• An official transcript from each post-secondary institution attended

To be considered official, transcripts must come directly from the school or be in a sealed envelope. Transcripts may be sent before application submission but must be received by the deadline for the application term.

All applications and materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. on the deadline specified for the application term:

• Spring 1 2025: December 14, 2024
