Articulate issues and challenges related to aging persons and their families, with specific emphasis on southeastern North Carolina

Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills through gerontology course work and service-learning experiences

Apply principles and theories that affect the quality of life for aging adults in retirement communities, health care settings, and other public and private organizations, which provide services and resources

Appreciate and synthesize knowledge of biology, health sciences, psychology, sociology of aging, with hands-on experience with older populations in our region

Evaluate aging research critically and participate in the research community to promote healthy aging

Applied Gerontology M.S. Alumni Have Careers As::

Professional that speaks and advocates for a particular category of person, such as a customer, a victim, a child or a patient.

Caring for patients, communicating with doctors, administering medicine and checking vital signs.

Lead, instruct, and motivate individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular workouts (for the heart and blood circulation), strength training, and stretching.

Responsible for supervising the clinical and administrative affairs of nursing homes and related facilities

Responsible for facilitating and developing program agendas according to business requirements and specifications.

Produce information for people who make decisions about programs.

Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data and opinions to explore issues, solve problems, and predict trends.
