Welcome to Coastal Eco Explorer's website, a central location at which you can download the app, read about its creation, and retrieve related classroom resources and lesson plans created by undergraduate and graduate students at UNCW.

What is Coastal Eco Explorer? This pioneering app combines biological education, outdoor exploration, and mobile navigation to create a fun and engaging experience at Carolina Beach State Park and Fort Fisher State Recreation Area.

About the App

Coastal Eco Explorer is a mobile application guiding hikers in Carolina Beach State Park and Fort Fisher State Recreation in an exploration of ecologically sensitive terrain. The mobile application was created as a partnership between UNC Wilmington faculty and students and North Carolina State Park rangers in 2019-2020 to highlight a variety of geographically relevant resources.

The mobile app guides both novice and experienced hikers by providing virtual educational information at each of the park’s 13 native ecosystems. Specific resources, including videos of rangers, are offered as further opportunities to explore the regions during the hike.
