13th Annual UNCW Honor Band Festival

GENERAL INFO

The University of North Carolina Wilmington is pleased to announce the 13th Annual UNCW Honor Band Festival. In addition to working with UNCW Director of Bands, Dr. Dominic Talanca, and our guest conductor, Dr. Kimberly Fleming (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), students will...

  • attend performances by UNCW student and faculty ensembles
  • participate in masterclasses given by UNCW music faculty
  • rehearse with one of two festival bands
  • make new friends from around the state
  • explore UNCW's beautiful campus
  • perform in the finale concert on Saturday afternoon for friends and family

Festival participants are selected based on their director’s endorsement and the submission of recorded musical excerpts. There is no fee to audition! Participation fee is $70 per accepted student.

Seniors: participants of the festival will have the opportunity to audition for admission into the UNCW Department of Music on Saturday, December 7. Students auditioning at this time will receive full consideration for scholarships!

NOMINATION & AUDITION PROCESS

Festival Scores

This platform allows for streamlined entry and an anonymous audition process.

DIRECTOR Log-IN & ENTRY

  • Directors who previously created an account can use it if they still have the same email address; password reset functions are available on the website
  • Directors new to the system or with new email addresses may follow prompts to create a new profile and then enter your students for consideration
  • Activate new event using code: PR62MK2

Entry Instructions (Video)

Simple Steps to:

Entry/Nomination (completed by Director) and
Audition MP3 Upload (completed by Director OR Student)

  • Log in to Festival Scores
  • MENU ITEM: HOME
    • Update profile
  • MENU ITEM: SCHOOLS
    • Confirm info in schools from last year or
    • Add school

STUDENT INFO NEEDED FOR ENTRY

  • RECOMMENDED
    • print the "student info needed for entry" blank template form
    • have students fill out
    • return to director for entry purposes
  • MENU ITEM: STUDENTS
    • Confirm students carried over from last year or
    • Add student(s)
  • MENU ITEM: AUDITION EVENTS
    • Activate new event using code: PR62MK2
  • CLICK MENU ITEM: ENTRIES
    • Click Manage Entries next to 2024 UNCW Honor Band Festival
    • Click new entry in the appropriate section
      • select student from drop down
      • select school from drop down
      • click NEXT
    • Repeat this process for all students that plan to submit an audition mp3 for the UNCW Honor Band Festival
    • This system allows for students to be entered in more than one audition (i.e. flute & piccolo or oboe & english horn)

DIRECTOR UPLOAD of student mp3

  • CLICK MENU ITEM: ENTRIES
    • Click Manage Entries next to 2024 UNCW Honor Band Festival
    • Click Manage button next to a student's name
    • Click Upload Audio File
    • Once the mp3 is successfully uploaded, the student's audition is complete

STUDENT UPLOAD of their audition mp3, THE DIRECTOR MUST...

  • CLICK MENU ITEM: ENTRIES
    • Click Manage Entries next to 2024 UNCW Honor Band Festival
    • Click Manage button next to a student's name
    • Click Audition Access under Student Uploading
    • This generates a personalized sheet containing a QR code and pin
    • Print form and give to student

We will be using the 9/10 NCBA Honors Band excerpts for our auditions. Click the Audition Sheet Music link below and download the file for your instrument to see the excerpts and audition cuts for the UNCW Honor Band Festival.
