Call for Applications
The College of Health and Human Services Community Engagement and Health Equity (CEHE) Office seeks full-time faculty applicants to participate in the inaugural Community Engaged Scholars Academy. Faculty from across UNCW are eligible to apply. Doctoral students who aspire to include principles of community-engagement in their upcoming research projects are encouraged to apply. An interprofessional cohort of 8-10 participants will be selected, representing colleges and units across campus. Participants may include novice or experienced faculty in community engagement.
Academy Goal & Purpose
This cohort-based academy provides professional development that enables faculty and doctoral students to engage in community partnerships to co-create research projects and grant applications. With an emphasis on community engagement, health equity, and scholarship, future projects will be grounded in mutually beneficial community partnerships and addressing community identified societal issues.
Topics for discussion include:
- The Scholarship of Engagement
- Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Concepts
- Research Design and Methodology
- Ethics and IRB Considerations
- Challenges of Collaboration
- Initiating and Sustaining Community Partnerships
- Developing a Partnership Agreement
- Evaluating Community Engagement in Research
- Budget Development and Considerations
- Culturally Responsive Research
- Disseminating Community-Engaged Scholarship
- Grant Writing.
Award Details
Participants who complete at least 80% of the academy and submit a project/budget proposal will be eligible for a $1,000 internal grant. This grant can be applied towards the development of a new or existing community engagement partnership project. The goal is for the funds to be used as seed funding for future scholarship/publication or grant proposal submission.
