The Seahawks First Learning Community is designed for first-generation students who want more than just a place to live or attend classes—it’s a built-in support system from day one. Join a community of students who share similar experiences, learn together and support one another as they transition to college life at UNCW.

Who Is a First-Generation Student?

At UNCW, a first-generation student is defined as a student whose parent(s) did not complete a four-year college degree in the United States. Note: Younger siblings of current college students or college graduates are still considered first-generation.

Courses

  • UN1: First Year Seminar — a course focused on easing your transition to college and setting you up for success
  • Course to be determined: Course will likely be career or leadership focused in nature
