About the Vice Chancellor
Dr. Davis serves as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Prior to joining UNC-Wilmington in May 2021, he held administrative positions at Western Carolina University, located in Cullowhee, North Carolina and the University of Alabama, where he rose through the ranks of both Academic and Student Affairs. There, he founded Alabama Reach, an office serving the needs of students coming to the institution from the foster care system, homelessness, or parental emancipation. Dr. Davis has continued to focus on supporting these populations, and has successfully established partnerships to provide emergency housing, domestic services, and other resources. He was selected as the staff member of the year for the Southern (athletic) Conference and was President for the North American Association of Summer Sessions (NAASS) for the 2021-2022 year.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Davis graduated from Hampton University with a bachelor’s degree in English Arts Secondary Education. There, he served in the capacities of Student Government Association President and Vice President. He has a master’s degree is in Counseling, with an emphasis on College Student Development; he also holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs, with an emphasis on the History of Education.
Outside of work, Dr. Davis is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity (Boule). He has served in several leadership roles in both organizations. He completed an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellowship at University of California Davis. Additionally, he is a Paul Harris Fellow for Rotary International and serves on the Board of Advisors for the Baptist Children’s Home of North Carolina. Dr. Davis was a member of the Health and Human Services committee for Haywood County, North Carolina (appointed) and served as the founding president of 100 Black Men of West Alabama. Additionally, he was on the Board of Directors for 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
Dr. Davis is involved in several other social and civic organizations. At the core of his professional and community activities is a strong appreciation for building relationships. Whether he is working with students, community members, coworkers or strangers, Dr. Davis is always endeavoring to build bridges and strengthen his community.
