This privacy notice identifies how the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (“UNCW”) mobile application (“App”, “UNCW - Mobile”) collects, uses, and protects any user data. By using UNCW - Mobile, you agree to the terms outlined below.

  1. Data Collection

Precise location data: The App collects precise location data to provide specific features including but not limited to navigation, event notifications, and other services available to app users and campus visitors. Precise location data collected through the app is not linked to a user’s identity and is not used for tracking purposes by UNCW other than providing the service(s). Precise location data is not retained or stored by UNCW.

App usage data: UNCW also collects usage data for analytics purposes. This includes information about how you interact with the App such as the features you use, pages you visit, session duration, and any errors that occur or are reported.

Account log in data: In order to access certain features of the App, or to access services you may be redirected to, a UNCW account may be required.

  2. How We Use Data

Precise location data: UNCW uses location data solely for in-app functionality. It helps us provide accurate services like navigation, event notifications for on-campus activities, and other services that require the use of your device’s location data.

App usage data: Analytics help us improve the App’s performance, identify issues, and enhance the user experience. We analyze aggregated usage data to understand what users are interacting with and optimize our offered services through the App.

Account log in data: When logging in to a UNCW account through the App, whether for accessing specific features or other services, your account data will be used to authenticate your request to access those features or services.

  3. Third-Party Partners

UNCW may utilize third-party software development kits (SDKs), application programming interfaces (APIs), or other tools and integrations in the App. These partners and services may collect additional data not covered by this privacy notice. Please refer to individual third-party privacy policies for more information as they are available through the third party.

UNCW utilizes third-party partners to provide services that support distributed campus operations. Data from these services may be displayed in the App. Users may be redirected to some services outside the App as needed to process certain requests.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to the third-party online/mobile store from which you install the App, which may also collect and use data about you. We are not responsible for any of the data collected by any such third party.

This privacy notice applies to all information collected through the Coastal Eco Explorer mobile application, ("the app").

  1. Information Used in the Mobile Application

  3. How Long Do We Keep Your Information?

We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting or other legal requirements). No purpose in this policy will require us keeping your personal information for longer than 90 days.

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
