Policy
The UNCW Police Department is responsible for providing police and security services for the university. When a special event is held on campus, the event/program facilitator or building manager shall contact University Police regarding security requirements. University Police will conduct a security assessment, which will evaluate, among other considerations, specific security requests from the event/facility coordinators and customary risks associated with the event in addition to local, regional and national threat levels and associated risk reduction strategies and response capabilities. The Chief of Police will determine final staffing levels and additional security requirements.
Standard security requirements include: barricades, metal detectors, and a combination of uniformed and plain-clothed police officers, as well as restricted and designated parking areas and traffic control measures, including the closing of roadways. The use of metal detectors, in addition to barricades which separate the stage from the audience are required for all concerts held in Trask Coliseum and other locations, as determined appropriate by the Chief of Police. Concert barricades will be designed for the purpose of providing security personnel and other essential event personnel secure access to the stage.
The cost of police and security services is separate from any premises use fees for the facility. As such, these services will be billed separately to the facilitator/coordinator of the event at a predetermined fixed rate.
