Purpose.
Explains policies and procedures concerning the receipt of shipments delivered to the University and the final delivery of these items to University departments.
Scope.
Applies to all University departments and activities.
Policy.
In general, only Central Receiving may receive direct shipments to the University and coordinate final delivery to the appropriate University department(s). However, exceptions to this rule may be permitted upon approval from the Director of Purchasing Services.
Shipments are made directly to the following:
- Florida Keys NURC Program
- Center for Marine Science (including NURC)
- UNCW Library (books only)
- University Bookstore (resale items only)
- Food Services contractor
- Vending (resale items only)
- Non-University contractors working on campus or other University locations.
In addition, orders (for items such as furniture or equipment) may be delivered directly to a University department or other location if specified in the "SHIP TO" address on the purchase order and if approved by Purchasing Services.
Procedures.
Delivery Schedule.
Central Receiving will make deliveries to University departments as indicated below only on normal working days during regular working hours. Should there be any change to the normal work schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (e.g., revised summer work schedule), Central Receiving will provide delivery service during working hours as established.
Express Mail (i.e., Federal Express) is delivered to departments within four working hours after receipt.
Student packages are delivered to the campus post office no later than 1:30 PM.
Shipments of hazardous or radioactive materials are delivered to departments by a campus safety officer within one hour after receipt.
Shipments of live animals or specimens are delivered to departments within one hour after receipt.
Packages that require protection from heat/cold are delivered within four hours after receipt. Packages that require refrigeration will be kept in the Warehouse refrigerator/freezer until delivery to the University department.
Routine shipments will be delivered to departments within eight working hours of receipt.
COD Packages.
Central Receiving will not accept COD or "Bill to Receiver" packages unless the department has made special arrangements with Central Receiving.
