May 20, 2021 | Message on Associate Provosts and Search Updates
Dear Faculty and Staff in Academic Affairs,
Overview
This email provides information on:
- The appointment of the interim Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs
- The identification of other associate provosts related to the new organizational alignment in the Office of the Provost
- The search for open administrative leadership positions within the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs
Interim Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs
Per my communication on April 26, I have been working to identify an interim Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs. I followed the process outlined in that communication, and presented Dr. Carol McNulty to the Faculty Senate Steering Committee as a candidate. The Steering Committee met with Dr. McNulty on May 4 and provided me their input regarding this appointment. Based on that input and input from others, I am pleased appoint Dr. McNulty in this interim role. Please join me in congratulating Dr. McNulty on this appointment!
Other Associate Provosts in the Office of the Provost
The new organizational structure realigns more than 20 different units in my office into eight “primary functional areas.” Each area will have clear and transparent responsibilities and expectations, and each will be led by an associate provost responsible for coordinating units within each area. Below are the areas, as well as the associate provost tasked with facilitating these areas:
- Global Partnerships and International Education – Mr. Michael Wilhelm
- Graduate Education and Lifelong Learning – Dr. Chris Finelli
- High Impact Practices, Community Partnerships, and the Arts - Dr. Jeanine Mingé
- Innovate Teaching, Learning, and Library Services – Dr. Lucy Holman
- Institutional Research and Planning – Dr. Andy Mauk
- Research, Innovation, and Commercialization – Dr. Stuart Borrett
- Student Engagement, Enrollment, and Retention – Dr. James Winebrake (until permanent leadership is identified)
- Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs – Dr. Carol McNulty (Interim Assignment)
Other Searches for Open Positions
We are in various stages with respect to several important administrative searches. These search updates are as follows:
- The search for the Executive Director for CMS: We have had finalist interviews, and I expect to have this search wrapped up in the next couple of weeks.
- The search for the permanent Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences: We have had finalist interviews, and I expect to have this search wrapped up in the next couple of weeks.
- The search for the Associate Provost for Student Engagement, Enrollment, and Retention: We have identified the search committee, which will be co-chaired by Dean Rob Burrus (CSB) and Dr. Christina Logan (SA). Isaacson Miller is assisting us with this search, and they are meeting with constituent groups on campus to help develop the position profile and announcement. We will conduct the search over the summer and hopefully have someone in place early fall.
Conclusion
Thank you for your support and assistance as we continue to move forward with implementing our new organizational structure and identifying administrative leaders to effectively serve Academic Affairs and UNCW.
Best,
Jamie
