June 13, 2020  |  Provost’s Updates on Academic Affairs Implementation Plan

Dear Academic Affairs Community,

I hope you and your loved ones are healthy and well. I want to provide you with an update on our Fall 2020 reopening planning. Here is a short summary:

  • The Academic Affairs Implementation Planning Team is working tirelessly and meeting regularly. The functions and structure of that team were explained in a recent memo that I distributed earlier this week. As a reminder, we have seven major areas of effort, each led by one or more team members:
    • Business and Personnel Operation
    • Course Scheduling
    • Faculty Policies and Procedures
    • High Impact Practices
    • Instructional Support
    • Library
    • Research
  • The team is now reaching out to other units and groups on campus to ensure we have cross-unit communication and coordination. Also, I am participating in university-level Steering Committee activities to help ensure that different divisions are obtaining the information they need to proceed with fall planning.
  • The team has set up a reporting/updating process that will help track our progress on our key action items. We will report out on progress of action items in future communications. My goal is to keep the Academic Affairs community as informed as possible on our reopening progress.
  • We recognize there are a lot of unanswered questions that many faculty and staff have regarding reopening. Many of those questions center around important health and safety protocols. There is a Health and Safety Committee at the university level that is working hard on establishing those protocols. We will get you updates on those protocols and other guidance as soon as practicable.

Again, thank you for your efforts during this challenging time. Please stay well!

Yours,

Jamie
