STEM LCSTEM SENC Selected to Join Global STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice
UNCW’s Watson College of Education is pleased to announce that STEM SENC has been selected to join the STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice, SLECOP, an initiative to improve education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). STEM SENC will now connect with 67 other Ecosystems. Read more >

innovateWatson College Hosts Statewide Conference on Innovation in Education
On April 30, the Watson College welcomed more than 150 education leaders, policy makers and members of the business community to UNCW for a conference designed to promote innovation in schools. Presenters and panelists included NC State Superintendent Mark Johnson, Senator Michael Lee, Best NC President Brenda Berg and School Superintendents Steven Hill, Austin Obasohan and Janet Mason. Keith Poston, President of the Public School Forum of NC, was Presider at the conference. WCE Professor Robert Smith coordinated the event. Read more >

PDS InvitationWCE Celebrates 25th Anniversary of PDS School-University Partnerships
UNCW recognized early that effective teacher preparation requires partnerships among colleges of education, public schools and the public. Created in 1993, WCE’s national-award winning Professional Development System partnerships have grown to include collaborations with 12 school districts, 143 schools and 2,200 partnership teachers. WCE celebrated the 25thanniversary of PDS at a re-signing ceremony and reception with district and school partners and other invited guests at the Watson College on April 26. View more information here >

RWWatson College Announces 2018 Razor Walker Award Recipients
Each year, the Watson College presents the Razor Walker Awards to individuals whose vision, tenacity, courage and sacrifice have made a difference in the lives of young people. This year’s honorees are Cathy Barlow, career educator; Ralph Hise, senator of the 47th District of NC; Wayne Lofton, president and CEO of the Community Boys and Girls Club; and the late James McAdams, longtime principal and educational leader in New Hanover and Brunswick counties. Read more >
