I am a CARE Peer Educator because I have gone through a couple of troubled relationships and I know how harmful these can be for people. Favorite Quote: "Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you." -Oprah Winfrey

I am a CARE Peer Educator because I am passionate about people. I desire for UNCW students to feel safe; I believe CARE can provoke that feeling. Sexual assault, unhealthy relationships, stalking and harassment are all topics that need to be discussed and prevented. I am happy that I am able to educate others on these topics.

Rebecca Powell

Year: Senior

Major: Public Health Studies

Favorite Quote: "What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." - Jane Goodall

I am a CARE Peer Educator because 23% of undergraduate women and 5% of undergraduate men experience sexual assault. That means that most likely everyone knows at least one survivor, and many more people are impacted by the trauma. Interpersonal violence affects everyone, so we need to work together to make a change by educating people about these issues and empowering them to take a stand when they see red flags, which range from sexist comments, to getting someone drunk for sex, to physical violence. I want to help promote a culture of respect.

Merideth Stevenson

Year: Senior

Major: Psychology and Criminology with a concentration on Criminal Justice and a minor in Anthropology

Hometown: Henderson, NC

Favorite quote: "Well behaved women seldom make history" Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

I am a CARE peer educator because during my life I have seen/experienced various types of interpersonal violence and learned, like others, not to speak about it. I want to change this idea for other students by educating and empowering our campus. CARE has shown me how passionate I am about preventing interpersonal violence, and I want to be part of an organization that makes everyone feel safe.

I am a CARE Peer Educator because it is vital in your success in college to have a support system and by being part of this team I can be that for someone who needs it. I am a CARE Peer Educator because I want to be the voice for those who may not think their voice will be heard. I want to educate and inform those around me about what interpersonal violence is and what steps can be taken to not only prevent it but also to build a support network for anyone who may be going through or knows someone going through interpersonal violence. I strive to be the voice for others, a hand to hold, and a smile to give for every person who may need help, advice, or just someone to listen to.
