I am a CARE Peer Educator because I know too many people that have been affected by sexual assault and interpersonal violence.  I hope to make a difference here at UNCW by educating, encouraging and listening to others; as well as, making sure that people who have been through such traumatic experiences have the support they need.

I am a CARE Peer Educator because I have gone through a couple of troubled relationships and I know how harmful these can be for people. I have many friends here at UNCW who have been victims of sexual assault and interpersonal violence; I want to prevent this from happening to others by educating the campus community and making a difference.

I am a CARE Peer Educator because I do not want to be silent on issues that matter to me. I've learned through CARE that there are ways to take action against interpersonal violence. This could be teaching others how to be active bystanders or even helping others feel empowered and supported. CARE is such a loving and open environment, and I am very excited to be a part of it.

I am a CARE Peer Educator because I think it important to educate others on interpersonal violence, how to spot red flags, and how to safely be an active bystander. Interpersonal violence has touched too many people, I want to help others become aware of this problem and help make the change I want to see in the world.

Rebecca Powell

Year: Senior

Major: Public Health Studies

Favorite Quote: "What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." - Jane Goodall

I am a CARE Peer Educator because 23% of undergraduate women and 5% of undergraduate men experience sexual assault. That means that most likely everyone knows at least one survivor, and many more people are impacted by the trauma. Interpersonal violence affects everyone, so we need to work together to make a change by educating people about these issues and empowering them to take a stand when they see red flags, which range from sexist comments, to getting someone drunk for sex, to physical violence. I want to help promote a culture of respect.

Frances Santana

Frances Santana

Year: Junior

Major: Studio Art

Minor: Psychology

Favorite Quote: "Que nada ni nadie te quite tu paz" & "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."

I am a CARE Peer Educator because I believe that we have the power to control and be who we are, who we will become, what we do, how we think and act. Society at times affects our perspective. With that being said, I want to be the voice and the face that gives the world knowledge about what is acceptable and what is not. Helping them learn how to be happy, believe in themselves and live their lives with no limits, regrets or setbacks.

Merideth Stevenson

Favorite quote: "Well behaved women seldom make history" Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

I am a CARE peer educator because during my life I have seen/experienced various types of interpersonal violence and learned, like others, not to speak about it. I want to change this idea for other students by educating and empowering our campus. CARE has shown me how passionate I am about preventing interpersonal violence, and I want to be part of an organization that makes everyone feel safe.
