FYS with an EDGE
The EDGE (Explore, Discover, Grow, Engage) course incorporates the common FYS goals and components, with the added component of leadership and community service. This variation of First-Year Seminar is best for students who want leadership and civic engagement opportunities around campus and in the Wilmington community. Students in the EDGE sections will plan and participate in group community service projects and learn about service and leadership opportunities through guest speakers and community agencies.
Students participating in this program through the Residential Learning Community will be housed on the Graham-Hewlett fourth floor and participate in the EDGE First-Year Seminar. This course is taught downstairs in the Graham-Hewlett classroom. Leadership and Service Learning Community participants cultivate their leadership skills by participating in Leadership UNCW, a certificate program that offers educational workshops and community service opportunities.
