UNCW Theatre Presents The Children's Hour
Two women establish a modest boarding school for girls in a small country town. They endeavor to establish their lives free from society’s structures, constraints and decades old ideologies that are imbedded in a patriarchal system. As the outside world seeps in, one of the girls makes an accusation that plays on the fears of society and threatens the future of the school and the women who run it. Written in 1934, Lillian Hellman’s The Children’s Hour tells the familiar and all too common tale of intolerance and the fear of difference that can infiltrate the collective consciousness of a community and lead to tragedy.
The Children's Hour will run at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 & April 6-9 on the Mainstage Theatre in the UNCW Cultural Arts Building. Tickets are $15 for members of the general public, $12 for seniors, UNCW employees, and alum, and $6 for students (sales tax included.) They are available at the Kenan Box Office on campus by calling 910.962.3500 or online at http://uncw.edu/arts/tickets.html. Tickets can also be bought in person an hour before the show on show dates.
