CFP Program

Certified Financial Planner™

Certification Program

Please note: we have had to indefinitely postpone our program due to low market demand. If you are interested in future offerings, please email

Financial planners are being utilized more frequently in the planning efforts of those trying to achieve their short-, medium-, and long-term financial goals. Certainly there is no guarantee that planners with or without the CFP® certification will be effective in any given investment situation. However, clients can rest assured that those planners with the CFP® certification have completed a minimum of at least 240 contact hours of classroom instruction, have validated that education by passing a rigorous 10 hours of standardized examinations, subscribe to a professional Code of Ethics, and achieve 30-hours of continuing education every two years.

For more information about our program, please visit here.

Please visit the link below for more information about the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.

The UNCW Certificate in Financial Planning was registered with Certified Financial Board of Standards, Inc. before the course hiatus. Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and CFP® (with flame logo)® in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements. UNCW does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and CFP® (with flame logo); certification marks. CFP certification is granted only by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to those people who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as a CFP Board-Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience and examination requirements.
