Pre-Pharmacy

Please note: Additional courses will be required if the student intends to enter pharmacy school prior to earning a bachelor's degree.

Pre-Physical Therapy

Please note: Some programs also require Exercise Physiology; at UNCW, you can take EXS 349: Physiology of Exercise and Sport.

Pre-Physician Assistant

In order to be competitive for admission to a variety of PA schools, you may have to complete many of the following prerequisites:

Below are the Physician Assistant (PA) graduate programs in North Carolina:

Campbell University: College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences: Physician Assistant Program
Duke University School of Medicine: Physician Assistant Program
East Carolina University: Department of Physician Assistant Studies
Elon University: M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies
Methodist University: Physician Assistant Program
Wake Forest School of Medicine: Physician Assistant Program
Wingate University: Department of Physician Assistant Studies

Although many of the prerequisite courses for admission to the PA program are similar, there are several important differences. It is critical that you look at each of the school's programs that you are interested in and create your academic plan at UNCW to include the necessary prerequisite courses. You should do the same for any PA graduate programs you are considering outside of North Carolina.

Pre-Podiatry

Pre-Speech Therapy

Speech-Language Pathology master degree programs typically require 15-25 credits of coursework in Communication Disorders prior to admission into the graduate level program. Courses specific to the study of Communication Disorders are not available at UNCW, but students can complete Biological Science and Physical Science prerequisites at UNCW.

Please review information from the institutions that offer degrees related to speech therapy to determine which courses can be completed at UNCW and which courses must be completed at an institution with a Communication Disorders department.

Appalachian State University: M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology
East Carolina University: Communication Sciences and Disorders
North Carolina Central University: Communication Disorders
UNC School of Medicine: M.S. in Speech and Hearing Sciences
UNC Greensboro: Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
Western Carolina University: M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders

Pre-Veterinary

Please note: Animal Nutrition is another required prerequisite. UNCW does not offer an animal nutrition course; this course must be taken online from another university or from a select group of North Carolina Community Colleges.
