SENCASPA Monthly Networking Lunch Series. You are cordially invited to join us for a monthly networking lunch series sponsored by the Southeastern North Carolina Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and the UNCW MPA program. This semester's lunch seriers will be held every fourth Friday of the month at McAlisters Deli across from the university. Click here for this month's Speaker information.
MPA Program Fall Open House . The MPA program will hold its fall open house on Thursday, October 22, 2009 in the Leutze Hall Lobby from 5-7pm. A brief overview of the program and its requirements will be made by the MPA Director. Faculty and current students will be on hand to answer your questions regarding the MPA program. Presidential Management Fellow Talk. On Thursday, October 1, 2009, UNCW MPA Alum & Presidential Management Fellow, Patrick Shipp, will discuss the distinguished program with students. Mr. Shipp will discuss the application process, the program activities, and answer questions from students. The talk will be held in the PIA Conference Room, 255 Leutze Hall from 5-6:30pm. MPA Comunity Advisory Board Meeting. The fall semester advisory board meeting will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009 from 8-9:30am in the Madeline Suite, UNCW Campus.

Healthcare Reform Panel Discussion . The Southeastern North Carolina Chapter of the American Society for Public Administrators (SENCASPA), the UNCW MPA Graduate Student Association and StarNews media presents A HEALTHCARE REFORM PANEL DISCUSSION on Thursday, August 27, 2009 starting at 5:30pm. The event will be held in the Warwick Ballroom on UNCW Campus. The panel will include area specialists, practitioners, insurance consultants, and media representatives. Opening remarks will be made by Rosemary DePaolo, UNCW Chancellor. Si Cantwell, of the StarNews, will serve as moderator. Graduate Teaching Assistants Orientation. So you’ve been hired as a GTA in the Public and International Affairs Department. What does that mean and what will you do as a GTA? We will have a mandatory orientation on August 11th from 5:00 – 6:30 in the PIA conference room where you will be given more information related to your duties and responsibilities. You are also required to attend the mandatory orientation for new students on Monday, August 17, 2009 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in Leutze Hall 110. Plan on stopping by the department around 1:30pm on 8/17/09 to help us get ready for the event. MPA Graduate Student Orientation (Department). Our mandatory orientation for new students is tentatively scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2009 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in Leutze Hall 110. At the orientation, we will advise you on the curriculum requirements, provide advising and registration assistance, and you will be asked to complete some additional paperwork to prepare for the upcoming semester. Classes will begin on Wednesday, August19, 2009. It is very important that you attend the orientation.
Graduate School Orientation (University). UNCW Graduate Student Orientation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2009 from 8am-12:15pm in Dobo Hall, Room 134. Students will be introduced to the Graduate School staff, the president of Graduate Student Association and learn about a host of services available at UNCW. Topics will include email accounts, financial aid, student accounts, library services, career services, parking and more.

The Academy for Strategic Management now accepting applications for the Fall 2009 Class. APPLY NOW! Each fall the UNCW MPA program offers the Academy for Strategic Management. It is a 40-hour program designed for mid-level, government and nonprofit managers or high potential staff. Six sessions are held on Fridays from 8:30am-3:00pm. Topics include leadership, strategic planning, human resource management, performance measurement, benchmarking, ethics, developing effective presentations, media relations, and more. Cost for Academy and six sessions is $500. Scholarships are available upon request. UNCW MPA Program, Southeastern North Carolina Chapeter of the American Society for Public Administration (SENCASPA), and Quality Enhancement for Nonprofit Organizations (QENO) present the 2009 Public Service Recognition Reception. The Honorable Carolyn Justice, NC General Assembly (District 16), will speak on Friday, June 12th, 6-8pm at the Burney Center, UNCW Campus. Free Admission. SENCASPA Monthly Networking Lunch Series. You are cordially invited to join us for a new monthly networking lunch series sponsored by the Southeastern North Carolina Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and the UNCW MPA program. The purpose of these lunches is to provide a regular opportunity for local government/nonprofit practitioners and students to gather in an informal, relaxed atmosphere to get to know each other and hear from a local leader about the challenges they are facing. They will be held every fourth Thursday of the month at McAlisters Deli across from the university.

MPA Open House. On Thursday, February 12, the MPA program will host an Open House in the Leutze Hall Lobby, 5pm-7pm. Current students, faculty, alumni, and advisory board members will be on hand to answer questions regarding the MPA program. Application deadline for Fall admission is March 1, 2009. Come out and learn about the MPA program.

Come and Celebrate the Graduates! Or have a drink for old times sake! The MPA program is pleased to announce its December graduates. In their honor and in effort to develop an MPA Alumni Association, there will be a MPA Graduation Reception/Alumni Mixer on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the 00Seven Martini Bar & Lounge at 122 Princess St. Wilmington NC. The Department of Public and International Affairs will also have its Graduation Reception immediately following the graduation ceremony in the Lumina Theatre at the Fisher Student Center.
