Minutes

November 16 , 2010

Members Present: Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo, Provost Cathy Barlow, Dr. David Cordle, Dr. Karen Wetherill, Mr. Larry Clark, Dr. Johnson Akinleye, Dr. Tom Barth, Dr. Bob Roer, Dr. Steve McFarland, Dr. Bruce McKinney, Mr. Sammy Pisano, Ms. Sissy Hendricks, and Mr. Mark Lanier.

Others Attending:  Dr. Manny Avalos, Dr. Brian Victor, Dr. Terry Curran, Ms. Dana Harris, Ms. Lisa Castellino, Dr. Ricky Whitfield, and Dr. Nathan Lindsay.

Chancellor DePaolo called the meeting to order at 2:00 P.M.

The minutes of the October 19, 2010 meeting were approved as posted on the web.

Chancellor DePaolo challenged the Planning and Quality Council to link the Soaring to Greatness Strategic Plan, UNC Tomorrow, Vision 2020, UNCW's 9 learning goals, University Studies, and the QEP. She reminded the Council that Soaring to Greatness and Vision 2020 belong to the UNCW campus; all must assume ownership. Provost Barlow recommended the creation of a visual, combined with a physical object to fit these strategic planning sources together, demonstrating the overlapping elements. Another question presented was how UNCW is to fund these efforts, especially with performance funding replacing enrollment growth funding. What part of Soaring to Greatness will be emphasized over the next 10 years?

Dr. McFarland presented an update on Vision 2020 planning on Goal IV, Global Citizenry, and Goal V, Engagement, available here (pdf).

The meeting adjourned at 3:30 P.M.
