SUBCOMMITTEE AND SPECIAL REPORTS
Draft Report of the "Legislative Study Commission on the Status of Education at UNC"
Mr. Fry distributed draft copies of the "Legislative Study Commission on the Status of Education at UNC." A number of items posing possible university opportunities, challenges and/or threats were earmarked for future discussion.
University's Concise Mission Statement
Mr. Fry noted that Dr. Willey had expressed concern over failure to mention of graduate programs in the university's concise mission statement. After considering her comments in January, Mr. Fry decided that the expanded version of the mission statement should again be used in both the graduate and undergraduate catalogues. Following Council discussion, Dr. Leutze instructed Dr. Carter and Mr. Fry to make revisions in the concise statement and bring it back to the group for approval. This revised statement will need to be taken to the Board of Trustees and the Board of Governors for approval.
Long Term Enrollment Projections
Mr. Fry made a brief presentation on enrollment projections. This topic will again be discussed at the next meeting.
UNC Quality Indicators
A task force at General Administration is in the process of developing quality indicators/ performance measures in response to a legislative request. These must be adopted by the end of 1995. Mr. Fry, a member of this group commented on the process this group is using and on the importance of these indicators. This will be a topic at subsequent meetings. Survey Activities
This semester, the Office of Institutional Research administered a Graduating Senior Survey, an instrument which will again be used for the Fall 1995 graduating cohort. This survey developed in most part by the College of Arts and Sciences, will be administered again to both summer and fall graduates. A freshmen survey will be administered during June and August freshman orientation sessions and an Alumni Survey will be sent to 1993-94 graduates after July 1st.
A report was made on the recent agreement between UNCW and the Wilmington Roosters, minor league baseball, to use campus athletic facilities during the next two years. The UNCW athletic program expects to benefit from this arrangement.
