University Planning and Quality Council
February 28, 2000 Meeting
Members present: Dr. James Leutze, Dr. John Cavanaugh, Tim Jordan for Robert Walton, Dr. James Dragna for Ms. Pat Leonard, Dr. Robert Tyndall, Patton McDowell, Dr. Michelle Howard-Vital, Dr. Jo Ann Seiple, Dr. Howard Rockness, Dr. Andrew Hayes, Dr. Virginia Adams, Dr. Neal Hadley, Dr. Denis Carter, Dr. Lynn Snowden, Dr. Richard Veit, Ms. Sue Cody, and Dr. Stephen McNamee.

Update on SACS Self-Study
Dr. Spackman briefed the committee on progress being made by the Self-Study committee. He reported that the Self-Study office would be located in Friday Hall beginning in July. Staff at this location will be an Office Assistant and a student employee who will maintain the Self-Study website. Dr. Spackman will distribute a self-study calendar, committee minutes and other correspondence to the Council and university community via the web.
Dr. Carter presented an admission report for fall 2000 applicants. Dr. Walters provided additional information on accepted freshmen, transfer applicants, and minority recruiting. Mr. Williams provided his annual update on the cost of higher education to students at UNCW and across the country.
Mr. Fry provided the Council with four (4) draft documents that contained: 1) goals for the university's planning process, 2) University Planning and Quality Council responsibilities, 3) a simplified process chart for university planning, and 4) a suggested list of campus-wide performance indicators. After some discussion, the first three of the above list were approved for inclusion in the newest edition of the University Planning Manual. Divisions are to supply Mr. Fry with any additions and/or revisions to the performance indicator list by March 27th.
