The Philosophy and Religion Department
The Philosophy and Religion Department seeks to foster philosophy and the study of religions and to encourage a critical appreciation of the deepest issues of human experience of the past and present, in our own culture and globally.
It plays a vital role in the University's mission to embrace global diversity and critical thinking. Founded in 1963, the department has grown from three faculty members to include fifteen full-time faculty.
We train students to think critically about contemporary issues and problems. Our students' scores on pre-graduate exams like the GRE, MCAT, and the LSAT, are the highest and among the highest of all university majors. Within the UNCW Dept. of Philosophy and Religion, we prepare our students to work within a diverse and international society. Many of our students study abroad and apply what they've learned to real world events and circumstances.
