This was passed down from my Aunt Janie. I sometimes skip the onions & sugar & it's just as good. As with writing - slight edits are fine as long as you don’t leave out the main parts.

Seven-Layer Salad
  1. 1 head lettuce, shredded
  2. 1/2 c. bell pepper, chopped
  3. 1 small red onion, chopped
  4. 1 pkg. frozen peas, thawed
  5. 1/2 c. celery, chopped
  6. 1 1/2 c. Hellman's mayonnaise
  7. 1 tbsp. sugar
  8. 1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
  9. 1 lb. of crumbled bacon

Fill salad bowl half full of lettuce. Add layers of bell pepper, onion, celery and peas. Spread mayo over peas, sealing to the edge of the bowl.Sprinkle sugar evenly over the mayo, followed by cheese and bacon. Chill (covered) for 8 hours to overnight.
