Mark Werbeach

Director of the CHHS Office of Student Success

Mark Werbeach has over 10 years of experience in university student and academic affairs. He provides leadership and direction to the Office of Student Success. Previously, he served as a Career Counselor at UNCW. Mark has always had a strong interest in helping other people reach their goals. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Kent State University in Ohio. He then went onto obtain a Master of Science in Counselor Education from Radford University in Virginia. Outside of work, Mark enjoys playing competitive volleyball, cornhole, and kitesurfing on sunny days.

Patti Schulz

Patti Schulz

Student Success Advisor

Patti Schulz has been an academic advisor with UNCW since Feb 2006. Prior to her work at the University of North Carolina, she worked as a counselor for a college up in New York and continues working as a college Professor of Psychology for that same institution. She also performed contract counseling work for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. . She has over 21 years of experience in the Higher Education field and has taught Psychology for over 18 years. She started her Higher Education experience during her time at Baylor University (taught classes at Baylor University) and continues to work in that field in her advising and teaching duties at UNCW. Patti received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Houghton College in New York. She then went on to receive her first Master’s degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She received her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and enrolled in the Licensed Professional Counselor Program in her Master’s degree. Later, she received a second Master’s degree and majored in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Carolina. She currently works as an Academic Advisor for the College of Health and Human Services for UNCW as well as an Instructor for UNI 101 at UNCW. She also continues to work as a college professor of Psychology as she teaches General Psychology, Child Psychology and Adolescent Psychology. She is currently taking additional accounting and computer science and programming courses for fun and is working towards being proficient in various languages such as Chinese and Spanish and hopes to pick up additional languages in Russian and Hindi in the near future. In her spare time, Patti has been taking flying lessons and hopes to receive her pilot’s license, she also enjoys running, golf, hiking, white water rafting, and any outdoor activities. She particularly likes International traveling and has been to Australia and Asia and Central America and many other countries.

Ryan Underwood

Student Success Advisor

Ryan Underwood has been an advisor in the Office of Student Success since 2012. She had previous experience in higher education while at Appalachian State University. Ryan received a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and a Master of Arts in Higher Education from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. In her free time, Ryan enjoys cross stitching, reading and collecting seashells from the beach. She looks forward to meeting all students who visit the Office of Student Success!

Leah Frierson

Student Success Advisor

Leah has been an academic advisor for over two years and prior to that coached college basketball for almost nine years. Leah is dedicated to student success and strives to make sure that each student has the resources and guidance to help them develop academically, professionally and personally during their time at UNCW. Leah received an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Southwestern Illinois College and a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Austin Peay State University. Leah then received her Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Arts in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina Pembroke. In her free time, Leah enjoys watching and playing sports, working out, reading, watching movies and spending time with friends and family.

 

Vicci White

Student Success Advisor

Vicci White started out as a K-12 teacher and coach. During the last 10 years she served as a Career Counselor at Occidental College in California, as a Career Manager at the University of Idaho and now as a College of Health and Human Services Student Success Advisor. Vicci is passionate about helping others - whether students, colleagues, or community members. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education: Physical Education at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington and a Master of Arts: College Student Affairs from Azusa Pacific University in California. Vicci can be found puttering around the house, playing cards, kayaking, or enjoying the beach when she is not at work.

Phil Hardy has been an advisor in the Office of Student Success since August 2014. Prior to joining the OSS staff, he provided advising and programming support for transfer, veteran and first-year students at the University of South Carolina. He also has previous advising experience in the community college system at Midlands Technical College. Phil received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Campbell University and a Master of Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina. His goal is to help students become winners in and out of the classroom. Phil enjoys meeting new people, spending time with friends and family, playing basketball, wearing bowties and exploring North Carolina!

Jennine Strange became a Student Success Advisor in the Office of Student Success in August 2014. She had previous experience as an academic advisor for student-athletes at the University of Central Florida. Jennine received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Sports Science from Elon University, and a Master of Science degree in College Student Affairs from Nova Southeastern University. She is passionate about guiding students in achieving their educational and career goals. In her free time, Jennine enjoys spending time at the beach, running, and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens!

 

 

Erin Luce

RIBN Student Success Advisor

 

Erin Luce has over 9 years of experience in nursing.  She spent the first part of her career in Adult Inpatient Surgical Services and continues to work in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit part-time at NHRMC.  In April 2013, Erin started a new role at the University as the RIBN Student Success Advisor for a dually enrolled nursing program with the community college and UNCW.  Erin has always had a passion for nursing and helping others.  Advising was a natural progression in her career because she can advise and guide students into a field she is already passionate about!  Erin received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She is currently enrolled at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro to complete a Master of Science in Nursing Education program.   In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with her family, reading, running, going out to eat and drinking chai tea!

 

Linda Kleckner

Linda Kleckner

Administrative Associate

Linda Kleckner has been with UNCW since 2005, having started at the School of Nursing, Student Services Office, then transitioning to the Office of Student Success when the School of Nursing became a part of the College of Health and Human Services in 2012.  She provides administrative support to the advisors in the Office of Student Success.  She is in the midst of completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with a hopeful graduation date of May 2017.  Linda is a native of Wilmington, which means she loves the beach.  She also loves to travel, is an excellent cook, and loves to read.
