Mark Werbeach started his career in university student and academic affairs in August of 2004. He transitioned to the UNCW Career Center in August of 2005 and served there for the next 6 and a half years. He then joined the College of Health and Human Services in January of 2012 and passionately serves the Student Success Center. Mark has always had a strong interest in helping other people reach their goals. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Kent State University in Ohio. He then obtained a Master of Science in Counselor Education from Radford University in Virginia. Outside of work, Mark enjoys playing volleyball, corn hole, disc golf, and kitesurfing on sunny days.

Administrative Associate

Linda Kleckner has been with UNCW since 2005, having started at the School of Nursing, Student Services Office, then transitioning to the Student Success Center when the School of Nursing became a part of the College of Health and Human Services in 2012. She provides administrative support to the advisors in the Student Success Center. Linda is a native of Wilmington, which means she loves the beach. She also loves to travel, is an excellent cook, and loves to read.

Adam has been an advisor in the Student Success Center since September 2015. Prior to joining the SSC staff he had served New Hanover County as a Sheriff's Deputy and a member of the Emergency Response Team. Adam received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion from the University of Coastal Carolina and a Master of Education degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. His passion is to help develop well rounded students who will be prepared for success in their life after college. In his free time Adam enjoys surfing, paddle boarding and playing sports.

Student Success Advisor

Ashley Auerbach joined the Student Success Center as an advisor in March 2015.  Ashley is passionate about providing inclusive and effective student support services, while both advocating for and empowering students!  Ashley holds a M.Ed. in College Counseling and Student Development from North Carolina State University, and a license as a National Certified Counselor. She also holds a B.A. in Political Science from San Diego State University, in her home state of California.  Prior to working at UNCW, Ashley was a college counselor at Wake Technical Community College, where she provided academic advising, career counseling, personal counseling, and community outreach services. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys staying active by playing beach volleyball, basketball, snowboarding, traveling, and exploring the beaches and mountains with her two rescue dogs.

Student Success Advisor

Becky became a part of the Student Success Center in January 2015. She came to UNCW from Cape Fear Community College where she counseled and advised students in Allied Health Programs, among other disciplines. Becky was a High School Guidance Counselor in Georgia for twelve years where she advised students and assisted with options for college. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in General Studies (Sociology) and her Master of Education degree from Georgia Southern University in Counselor Education. She loves working with students to help them reach their life goals. When not working with students, she enjoys playing tennis, running, boating, watching college football (Geaux Tigers!) and spending time with friends and family, which includes her Golden Retriever "Finn."

RIBN Student Success Advisor

Erin Luce has over 9 years of experience in nursing. She spent the first part of her career in Adult Inpatient Surgical Services and continues to work in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit part-time at NHRMC. In April 2013, Erin started a new role at the University as the RIBN Student Success Advisor for a dually enrolled nursing program with the community college and UNCW. Erin has always had a passion for nursing and helping others. Advising was a natural progression in her career because she can advise and guide students into a field she is already passionate about! Erin received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently enrolled at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro to complete a Master of Science in Nursing Education program. In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with her family, reading, running, going out to eat and drinking chai tea!

Gail has been assisting students since 2001.  She is passionate about empowering students to be self-regulated learners, while supporting them along their academic journey.  Gail earned her B.A. in English and Theater Certificate at Siena College and received several Master degrees in Education in the field of Counseling (College Student Personnel and School), as well as Educational Psychology with a concentration in Program Evaluation from The College of Saint Rose.  Gail's passions include teaching yoga, barre and spin, hiking, writing poetry, and playing beach volleyball. You can also find Gail walking her cats, Danny D and Maia!

Jennine Strange became a Student Success Advisor in the Student Success Center in August 2014. She had previous experience as an academic advisor for student-athletes at the University of Central Florida. Jennine received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Sports Science from Elon University, and a Master of Science degree in College Student Affairs from Nova Southeastern University. She is passionate about guiding students in achieving their educational and career goals. In her free time, Jennine enjoys spending time at the beach, running, and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens!

Kristen started as a Student Success Advisor in the Student Success Center in March 2015. A Greenville, NC native, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 2006 from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and after teaching 3rd grade in Charlotte, NC for 2 years, went on to receive her Master of Arts in Higher Education- Adult & Developmental Education in 2011 (also from Appalachian State). She also has a graduate certificate in Post-Secondary Learning Support from the University of Florida. Before coming to UNCW, Kristen served as an Academic Coordinator for Athletes both at East Carolina University and George Mason University. Most recently, she served as Training Coordinator in the Office of the Registrar at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL from February 2012-March 2015. Kristen is passionate about helping students achieve both personal and professional success and is interested in assisting students with overcoming the unique challenges they each face. In her free time, Kristen enjoys spending time with her husband, 3-year daughter and newborn son, cat, and dog, as well as reading, playing the violin, and running.

Lindsay Phipps has been an advisor in the Student Success Center since January 2016. She is a North Carolina native and a graduate of UNCW. In 2010, Lindsay received a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology from UNC-Wilmington. She would later go on to receive her Master's Degree in College Student Development from Appalachian State University. Prior to working at UNCW, Lindsay worked as the Assistant Director of Student Activities at Lander University in Greenwood, SC. She has gained valuable experience; working closely with New Student Orientation, Career Development and the University Programming Council. Her passion is to create learning and real life experiences in college that will help make students successful after graduation. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her dog, traveling, trying new restaurants, spending time with family and friends and going to the beach.

Mark Forbes has been an advisor in the Student Success Center since April 2015. Mark has worked as an academic advisor and social science professor since 2011. Mark received a Bachelor Arts degree in History from the University of New Hampshire and a Master of Science degree in Education from the University of New England. In his free time, mark enjoys watching and playing sports, motorcycle riding, wood-working, and spending time with his two sons.

Mark is a North Carolina native and is originally from Hudson, NC where he served as an Admissions Representative for Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute for five years. Mark received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama from the University of North Carolina Asheville and his Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. In his spare time, Mark enjoys participating in community theatre and is also a licensed pilot. He desires to continue flying and aspires to become a Certified Flight Instructor. As a professional, Mark desires to provide the support students need to be successful while fostering meaningful relationships with the students he works with. He is excited to be a part of UNCW.

Student Success Advisor

Molly Basehore joined the Student Success Center team in November 2015. She has previous experience working in Academic Support Services for Athletics at the College of William and Mary. During this experience, she provided academic and career advising to student-athletes in addition to planning and implementing a 13-week new student orientation program focused on easing freshmen student-athletes transition into the college environment and NCAA Division I competition. Molly received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech and a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the College of William and Mary. She has a passion and interest for serving, working with, and helping to support and guide students on their path to a happy, successful, and engaging lives during their collegiate experiences and beyond. In her free time, Molly likes spending time with friends and family, reading, writing, hiking, playing and watching sports, and seeking out delicious "foodie" experiences.

Natalie Bernardina joined the Student Success Center in January 2015. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. She earned her Masters of Education in Higher Education in Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. She has previously worked as an academic advisor at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC and University of South Carolina - Aiken in Aiken, SC. Her passion is for helping students get the most out of their education and time in college. In her free time Natalie enjoys spending time at the beach, reading, traveling and hanging out with family and friends.

Phil Hardy has been an advisor in the Student Success Center since August 2014. Prior to joining the SSC staff, he provided advising and programming support for transfer, veteran and first-year students at the University of South Carolina. He also has previous advising experience in the community college system at Midlands Technical College. Phil received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Campbell University and a Master of Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina. He is passionate about encouraging others and helping them achieve their academic, career and personal goals. Phil enjoys spending time with his wife, friends and family, eating tacos, watching funny movies and meeting new people.

Rachael holds a Master of Arts in College Student Development and Administration from Shepherd University and enjoys bringing her passion for higher education to the students with whom she works. Before coming to UNCW, she was the counselor/advisor for TRiO Student Support Services at Hagerstown Community College (HCC) in Maryland for almost five years. Rachael also worked in correctional mental health after completing an Associate of Arts in Foreign Language at HCC and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV.  She trained as a classical ballet dancer before college and has since transitioned her love of movement into becoming a yoga practitioner with teacher certification underway. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, the performing arts, and any activity involving the ocean.

Rachel became a part of the Student Success Center in January 2016. A North Carolina beach native, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from UNC-Wilmington in 2010. After graduation, Rachel taught for New Hanover County schools before starting her master's program at North Carolina State University. She received a master's degree in college counseling and student development and a license as a National Certified Counselor in 2015. Before coming to the Student Success Center, Rachel organized and led a student retention program at North Carolina State University. Rachel also has previous experiences abroad, most recently completing a research study on college graduates living in Beijing, China. In her free time, Rachel enjoys reading on the beach, going out to eat, and spending time with her friends and family.

Vicci White is passionate about helping others be successful - whether students, colleagues, or community members. She started out as a junior/senior high teacher and coach. During the last 11 years, she served as a Career Counselor at Occidental College in California, as a Career Manager at the University of Idaho, and now as a CHHS Student Success Advisor. Vicci received a Bachelor of Arts in Education: Physical Education at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington and a Master of Arts: College Student Affairs from Azusa Pacific University in California. Vicci can be found decorating the house in seasonal colors, riding her road bike, golfing, playing cards, kayaking, or enjoying the outdoors, when she is not at work.
