CESTEM Adds 3D Printer to Lending Library

Friday, April 01, 2016

This spring, UNCW’s Center for Education on Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CESTEM) added a 3D printer to the inventory available for teacher checkout through the Technology Loan Program (TLP).

CESTEM purchased the printer to expand on resources and equipment they lend to teachers in support of project-based learning for middle and high school students, Chris Gordon said. Gordon is assistant director of CESTEM.

A 3D printer and software workshop for teachers will be held on campus on April 23. During the workshop participants will learn how to design and print 3D objects using a MakerBot Replicator 5th Generation 3D printer.

After the workshop, participants will complete follow-up activities that include viewing videos and writing a lesson plan. After completing the workshop and follow-up activities, teachers can became eligible to check out the new 3D printer through CESTEM’s TLP.
