Message from Chancellor: Provost Winebrake Appointed President of Coastal Carolina University

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff: 

I am writing today to let you know that Dr. James J. Winebrake, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, has accepted the position of President at Coastal Carolina University. He will begin his role July 7, Coastal Carolina announced today. 

Jamie’s steadfast leadership, innovative approach to problem-solving, and strong commitment to academic excellence will make him a tremendous asset to his new university. Since joining UNCW in 2020, Jamie led the advancement of our university’s mission with notable achievements, including two new colleges, record enrollment growth and retention rates, expansion of the research enterprise, numerous new academic programs, and more. 

I want to thank Jamie for his dedication and service to UNCW, most especially to our students and faculty. He made my transition back to UNCW as Chancellor smooth and seamless, helping me re-establish strong ties to the academic enterprise of our great university.  

Please join me in wishing Jamie well in this new endeavor. You know what we say at UNCW – once a Seahawk, always a Seahawk. I have no doubt Jamie and Coastal Carolina will soar high, soar far and soar together in the future.
