Wave breaking news
Check out MarineQuest's new promo video!
MarineQuest’s popular Girls Exploring Marine Science program (Sea GEMS) will become a year round leadership program this fall. Girls selected for the program will have the opportunity to interact with women leaders from the four fields of marine science, learn about current issues impacting the marine environment, develop technical skills for the lab and field, and engage in community service that benefits coastal habitats and organisms.
Beginning fall 2014 MarineQuest will be partnering with local middle schools to provide students with STEM experiential learning opportunities that promise to engage them with the marine environment. Aligned with national Ocean Literacy Principles and the North Carolina Essential Standards for Science, Project TECHNOcean proposes to use hands-on inquiry-based lessons, labs and field experiences to engage students with ocean monitoring, ocean exploration and ocean conservation. Participating students will practice authentic STEM skills associated with marine science research and data collection, and also become familiar with different technologies and equipment that is utilized to study the marine environment. Project TECHNOcean students will employ engineering design principles while working in teams to create model ROVs, wind turbines or buoys. Sixth graders will explore the interactions between the ocean and land, seventh graders will explore the relationship between the ocean and atmosphere, and eighth graders will immerse themselves in the study of the hydrosphere.

Saturday Morning Marine Explorers
Welcome to MarineQuest!
MarineQuest is the official marine science outreach program for the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Watson College of Education, and the Center for Marine Science providing young people with opportunities to explore, discover and value our marine habitats. Whether you experience MarineQuest as a summer camper exploring the ocean or as a student on a school field trip discovering the marsh, the outcome is the same: MarineQuest is more than just another day at the beach; MarineQuest is making waves in environmental education!
Fall Saturday Morning Marine Explorers
Join our MarineQuest staff this fall for Saturday mornings filled with exciting scientific fun at the UNCW Center for Marine Science. Each month, we focus on a different theme as we get hands-on to explore sea creatures, marine habitats and ocean phenomena through lab experiments, field activities, games, art and more. Experience first-hand what it's like to be a true Marine Explorer!
