Giving to the History Department
The History Department’s students and faculty as well as the wider UNCW and Wilmington communities have benefitted enormously from the generosity of many donors, who have done everything from endowing our department’s Block Chair in Jewish History and its associated programming fund, the Rhine Fund, to supporting the annual Sherman Emerging Scholar Lecture, one of UNCW’s signature events, held every October, to enabling faculty scholarship and teaching initiatives through the Moseley Fund, to endowing dedicated graduate and undergraduate scholarship funds, many dedicated for particular purposes. The department chair is always excited to discuss with donors possibilities in all of these areas. Our department’s trust fund also always welcomes otherwise undesignated donations—we use those monies to support public programming in a variety of forms, and to honor students at graduation time and on other special occasions. We take stewardship of these resources very seriously indeed, and appreciate the efforts, large and small, of so many in the community to support history education and scholarship in all of its splendid variety.
