Residence Life Frequently Asked Questions

When will I receive my housing assignment?

Students contracting for on-campus housing need to log in to their MySeaport account, read and agree to the terms outlined in the contract, and pay the $105 non-refundable housing contract fee. By clicking the box stating "I agree" and paying the $105 non-refundable housing contract fee, you are guaranteed a bed space on campus for that academic year. Once you successfully complete the online contract in MySeaport, students are encouraged to fill out both residence hall preferences and roommate preferences. Please note, that the preferences submitted are not guaranteed; these are only a preference and our office will work to accommodate as many preferences as we can.

Prior to June 1st, our office will run an automated housing process based on the students contract completion date. (An early housing contract receipt date is considered January or February). The sooner you complete your contract and pay the $105 non-refundable housing contract fee, the better your chance that your assignment will be made during the first round of assignments and you'll receive your first preference. Online training materials are available at www.uncw.edu/housing

May I change my housing assignment?

After the second complete week of the fall semester, The Office of Housing and Residence Life will conduct a period of open room change. Students are permitted to select a bed space based on vacancies that develop during the occupancy checks performed during the first two weeks of class. After this period, should a roommate conflict be deemed irresolvable, the Residence Coordinator and the Housing and Residence Life administrative staff will facilitate a room change outside of the assigned dates for open room changes.

Where do I go when I arrive on campus?

When you arrive on campus you will be greeted by a helpful police officer who will direct you to your check-in location provided to you in your housing move-in packet along with your placard and blue emergency card.  If you need to print your placard out prior to move-in day, please click here to print the placard and map of the UNCW campus. Please make sure that your vehicle displays the placard that corresponds to your residence hall or area during move-in day. Once you arrive at your area, our staff and volunteers will be there to welcome you and direct you further.

Are carts and hand trucks available for Move-In Day?

Yes, however, the volunteers will load your belongings into the carts and assist you with carrying them to your room.

Are my personal belongings insured?

As the university cannot be held accountable for loss, damage or theft to any student's personal property, all students are encouraged to carry their own insurance coverage. Your family's homeowner or tenant insurance may provide coverage, or you can arrange for personal property coverage at http://nssi.com.

What size sheets will fit my bed?

All beds in traditional residence hall rooms are 80" long. Standard twin bed size sheets will not fit properly. Extra long sheets can be found in most retail stores. The mattress size of beds in Seahawk Village and Seahawk Landing is XL Full (53" x 80" x 6"). Deep pocket sheets are suggested.
