Flicker Film Society

MISSION STATEMENT

Flicker Film Society is a student organization dedicated to providing a creative outlet for all film enthusiasts at UNCW.

Members of Flicker can expect to learn from fellow students, as well as help teach others as they participate in discussions, workshops, film and video productions, producing Flicker Film Magazine and hosting Flicker's annual Reel Teal Film Festival (myspace.com/reeltealfilmfestival). Flicker Film Society believes that ambitious filmmakers thrive best when they collaborate.

Flicker has more than fifty attending members. The Department Chair, Lou Buttino, serves as the advisor to the group. Dr. Mariana Johnson assists with the magazine.

2009/2010 GOALS

This spring, Flicker plans to be involved in the on-campus scene more than ever.  They have established a working relationship with T.E.M.P.O. (The Empowerment of Musicians through Peer Outreach) to score their films, and in turn, produce music videos for musicians in T.E.M.P.O.  Flicker also plans on officially shooting two short narrative productions this semester, one on 16mm film and one on video, in addition to the number of unofficial productions their members produce individually.  To wrap up the semester, Flicker will host the 4th annual Reel Teal Film Festival, showcasing short films submitted by students, local filmmakers, and filmmakers from across the country.  Alongside all these activities, Flicker will begin to produce video advertisements for Lumina Theater through UNCW Student Media.
