Course Description:
CHM-595 (1 cr. hr.) is designed for chemistry graduate students to broaden their knowledge of chemistry and to better understand how the various branches of chemistry as well as other scientific disciplines interact. Scientists from other universities, from the chemical industry, as well as from UNCW will make presentations related to their research.
Requirements:
Students are expected to attend every seminar listed on the seminar calendar. If you are unable to attend a seminar, please e-mail me to let me know. Each student will be assigned a seminar for which you will need to prepare a brief introduction of the guest speaker. Your assignment will be shown on the seminar calendar online. In addition, each student will need to write a one-page report of what you got out of each seminar. This is not just a summary of the content of the seminar, but also what you personally gained from listening to the seminar. These summaries are due on the Wednesday following each Friday seminar. They should be submitted in MSWord as an attachment to email.
Grading:
Your grade in this course is based on the following: 60% seminar attendance, 10% introduction of speaker, and 30% seminar summaries.
