UNCW's executive chef,
Mike Obrochta, works on his entrée for his entry into
the Aramark Culinary Excellence (ACE) Regional Chef Competition
hosted at UNCG on Feb. 25, 2009.
Mike Obrochta was the
winning chef of the regional competition. As a result
of this win, Obrochta advances to the next level of competition,
the National ACE Competition, as part of the three-chef
Southeastern regional team. They will compete in Boston
on June 27 against other regional teams from the U.S.
and Canada.
Obrochta, the executive
chef at UNCW since 2005, has more than 23 years of experience
in the food service industry. He oversees and works with
the menus for all 12 of the campus dining locations and
the catering department. As
executive chef, Obrochta creates menus that meet the
nutritional needs of thousands of students and guests
per day. This includes coming up with 28 different vegetables
each week and several entrees.
