The UNCW Corporations are component units of the University and organized as a North Carolina non profit corporation to enhance the University of North Carolina Wilmington's educational mission, including, without limitation, overseeing and assisting with the acquisition and financing of capital assets for the University. Although legally separate from the University, the Corporations are considered a component unit of the University because the University's governing body appoints the Corporations Board of Directors. Therefore the Corporations's financial statements are presented with those of the University.
UNCW Corporation was organized to develop, construct, own, finance, manage, operate and otherwise deal with student housing facilities on or near the campus of the University. Currently there are two phases of privatized housing (Seahawk Village and Seahawk Landing) which have been completed and occupied and construction is underway for our third phase.
UNCW Corporation II was organized to purchase properties near the vicinity of the University to offer auxiliary parking facilities to our students and allow for long term expansion of the University.
UNCW Research Foundation was solely organized for the support and benefit of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. It offers a means of collaborating with other companies in the development of applications and intellectual property for the benefit of the Universities students, faculty and staff.
Our office provides monthly financial statements to the Board of Directors, the preparation of the annual financial statements and the tax filings for the Corporations.
