Pilobolus
Saturday, Mar. 31, 2012
8 pm, Kenan Auditorium
Pilobolus (crystallinus) is a phototropic zygomycete - a sun-loving fungus that grows in barnyards and pastures. It’s a feisty thing - only 1/4 inch tall - that can throw its spores nearly eight feet. It is also a highly unusual dance company, embarking on its 40th year of evolution.
Germinated in the fertile soil of a Dartmouth College dance class in 1971, Pilobolus has evolved into a pioneering American cultural institution of the 21st century -- renowned the world over for it's imaginative and athletic exploration of dance and movement. Pilobolus returns to Wilmington with a fresh batch of new works, which challenge the notion that art cannot be both insightful and entertaining.

Pilobolus Dance Workshop
Sat., March 31, 2012
11 am – 1 p.m. | UNCW's Cultural Arts Building Dance Studio
While in town, members of Pilobolus will conduct a community dance workshop for all ages and levels!
What to expect
Dancers and non-dancers of all ages are invited to explore the methods of collective creativity that have formed the genetic code of Pilobolus' work for over 40 years! During a two-hour workshop, Pilobolus company members provide approaches to inventing, solving problems and working productively in a group setting. The workshop will focus on using physical expression as a means to explore creativity within a group. Regardless of your background, participants of Pilobolus workshops bond intensively and accomplish things individually and as a group they never thought possible!
What to wear
Participants should wear comfortable clothing in which you can easily move (i.e.., sweatpants, yoga pants, workout clothes). Footwear: Barefoot or lightweight sneakers.
How to Register
