Office of Cultural Arts Festivals & Celebrations

In January 2006, Homage to Mozart, a week-long celebration commemorating the 250th birthday anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, attracted over 5,000 visitors to Kenan Auditorium and featured some of the university’s and the region’s finest musical ensembles and soloists, plus special guests (such as violinist Joseph Silverstein) of international renown.
In April of 2006, the Office of Cultural Arts presented one of the nation’s finest young dance ensembles, Carolina Ballet, in a performance of Shakespeare Suite. The 2-day Shakespeare Celebration concluded on the ocassion of the playwright’s birthday anniversary with a performance of three extended dance pieces inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
The 2006/2007 season provided an opportunity for even more exciting festival events, including the Year of the Arts, a year-long schedule of special presentations commemorating the historic new facilities, venues, and partnerships in the university’s cultural life. The year culminated in a Gala Performance featuring 2 World Premieres by Artists in Residency Carolina Ballet.
