Writers’ Week


Many thanks to Emily Smith of the UNCW Department of Creative Writing for organizing Writing to Transform in fall 2020, with assistance from the faculty and staff: Tim Bass, Lisa Bertini, Wendy Brenner, Mark Cox, Melissa Crowe, Sayantani Dasgupta, KaToya Ellis Fleming, Nina de Gramont, Clyde Edgerton, Philip Gerard, David Gessner, Megan Hubbard, Rebecca Lee, Zelda Lockhart, Melody Moezzi, Malena Mörling, Anna Lena Phillips Bell, Michael Ramos, Robert Siegel, Sophia Stid, and Michael White.

Thanks are also due to the students of CRW 540 who, as part of their coursework, are responsible for planning and hosting these virtual events: Amanda Ake, Katelyn Freund, Bianca Glinskas, Lindsay Lake, Patrick McDermott, Lashaun Noel, Noelle Powers, Kayleigh Rhatigan, and Ryleigh Wann.

Thanks to the continuing generosity of Mr. Charles F. Green, III. The Buckner Lecture Series was established to fund bringing the most distinguished writers, speakers, and artists of our generation to UNCW as guests.  The lecture series is named in honor of Mr. Green’s friend Katherine K. Buckner.

Thanks also to the UNCW College of Arts and Sciences for their lead support of Writers’ Week.

Events featuring Aimee Nezhukumatathil and Gerald Maa are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment of the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council. 

Ecotone, the Georgia Review and Oxford American magazines generously donated copies for student Lit Kits.

Digital graphics in support of the week were designed and produced in The Publishing Laboratory by Michael Ramos, Daniel Grear, Cassandra Lintz, Olivia Loorz, Cassie Mannes Murray, Rachel Pittman, and Tory Tarpley.
