Upcoming Events

Student Enrollment:  Thanks to the 50+ amazing volunteers and Sammy the Seahawk, enrollment week was a success!  It was thrilling to meet our students and their families. Time passed very quickly as students engaged in a series of four fun stations that allowed trained volunteers to collect information for teachers while parents completed required enrollment documents.  MedNorth and the YMCA were also onsite to provide families with program information. Prior to leaving, students and parents created a personalized quilt square that will be incorporated into school-wide keepsakes thanks to talented WCE staff Kathryn Batten and Tonia McKoy.  The excitement was electric!  Families that were unable to attend are continuing to complete enrollment paperwork.  We are still accepting applications.  All elementary classrooms with the exception of 3rd grade have waitlists and the final middle school slots are filling quickly.  Our next school-wide event is Open House on Thursday, July 12 from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.

Community Partners: DCVPA has a tremendous network of community partners.  On Friday, June 8 more than 20 of these partners assembled at UNCW to learn more about the transition and discuss how their organizations’ engagement is critical to the success of the school.

Flip-a-School:  Today marks the beginning of an intense three-week period to prepare DCVPA for students and staff.  NHCS operations staff will work to remove items from the school while capital improvements and technology infrastructure swaps begin.  A special thanks to the NHCS and UNCW teams who are collaborating to make this flip a success!

Landscaping:  We are pleased to announce Sweetwater Landscaping was awarded the contract for landscaping services at DCVPA.

Chancellor’s Advisory Board:  The first meeting of the DCVPA Chancellor’s Advisory Board will convene on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.  Legislation details the required formation, membership, and function of the advisory board.  These meetings are open to the public.

Staff Onboarding:  We can hardly believe it!  DCVPA faculty will convene for the first time this Friday morning for onboarding!  Faculty will work with members of the HR team and UPD to complete employment documents and fingerprinting, tour campus, and have a quick in-service at Randall Library before heading back to DCVPA for the afternoon.  Faculty board a bus on Saturday, June 23 bound for the Model Schools Conference.  This time together will provide opportunities for team-building and planning.   Many thanks to everyone at UNCW who have worked tirelessly to make this opportunity possible!

Volunteer Opportunities:  We are seeking volunteers to help us put the finishing touches on this transition!

Painting Days:   A fresh coat of paint can transform a room!  We have identified key areas in the school for make-overs. We are seeking volunteers on Friday, June 29 to help prep these areas and volunteers on Saturday, June 30 to paint.  Click here to learn more about and sign up for painting days.

Unpack & Organize Week:  All items that have been purchased for DCVPA will be moved from storage to the school gym during the week of Monday,  July 2- Friday, July 6.  We are seeking volunteers who are willing to help us unpack and stage the gym/cafeteria.  We are also seeking muscle to help move existing furniture that is being permitted to remain at the school to new locations. This week is critical! Note:  We will not work on Wednesday, July 4. Click here to learn more about and sign up for Unpack & Organize Week!

Move-in Day:  This volunteer opportunity is not to be missed!  Monday, July 9 will mark the first day for our faculty.  We are seeking volunteers to work in teams to help them move into their new classrooms.  New classrooms materials and supplies will be on display in the gym/cafeteria for them to choose from.  Volunteers will assist with carrying these items to the classrooms as well as help them unload items they are bringing with them.  This will be a fun, memorable day!  Click here to learn more about and sign up for move-in day!

THIS Week At-A-Glance:  DCVPA transition begins; generate plan for moving items in storage; technology meeting; finalize NCDPI systems sign-up; policies; faculty onboarding
