Office of University Relations Announces New Art Director

Shirl New portraitA long-serving Seahawk will take on a new leadership position as the spring semester comes to an end.

Shirl Modlin New, one of OUR’s former graphic designers, has been named OUR’s first-ever Art Director. In this new position, she will be at the helm of the university’s brand identity, overseeing the creative services team and coordinating the production of visually engaging and effective collateral across multiple platforms.

New has more than 30 years of experience in design and print production and has used her creative abilities to develop visual concepts, organize and manage high-level projects, and oversee brand identities for both private and higher education institutions.

Over the years, she has capitalized on professional development opportunities, including pursuing a certificate in business administration and a webmaster certificate in design media.

New joins Chief Communications Officer Janine Iamunno; Andrea Weaver, deputy director; Jennifer Glatt, editorial director; Jesse Bradley, director of media production and Molly McKeown, director of web communications, on the OUR leadership team. OUR, UNCW’s hub for internal and external communications and marketing, is committed to enhancing the university’s brand awareness through engaging messaging, dynamic print and digital collateral, and vibrant photography and media production.
