Upperman is privileged to once again be the hosts for the Association for Black Culture Centers' 30th Annual Conference entitled "The People Who Could Fly: Culture Centers Soaring to New Heights". The hybrid conference is slated to be one where you can come and convene at the beach, or experience it from the comforts of your office and home.  It intends to equip new directors and professionals, explore trends in the Black Cultural Center landscape for seasoned staff, provide space for students (both undergraduate and graduate), make space for joy and collegiality, and celebrate our collective successes.  Wrapped in the cultural idioms of Gullah-Geechee food, language, aesthetics and philosophy, we hope to transport you to Black beaches where pieces of your mother tongue are combined with ancestral knowing(s), even if you are land locked. We hope that you will join us this year!
