UNCW’s University Studies program is offering two funding opportunities for faculty interested in strengthening University Studies and department/program-level course offerings that directly address UNCW’s Living in Our Diverse Nation learning outcomes and our university’s learning goals of Diversity and Global Citizenship.

1. Department/Program Diversity Curriculum Review Grant

Summer grants of $750 for faculty, with approval from their program director or chair, to undertake a curricular review of their department’s University Studies LDN offerings as well as their department/program curriculum that maps onto the Diversity and Global Citizenship learning goals. Chairs and participants commit (1) to consider the relationship of existing curriculum to these learning goals and (2) to make appropriate recommendations to departmental/program curricular committees in Fall 2021 for robust additions to or revisions of the existing curriculum. We are especially (though not exclusively) interested in recommendations for curricular revision that speak to the ways the issue of American racial inequities can be better addressed within your curriculum.

2. Living in Our Diverse Nation Model Curriculum Grant

The University Studies program will fund selected faculty for $2,000 Curriculum Development Grants. Participants will be expected to develop a new LDN course—or significantly revise an existing course—and submit the course for University Studies approval next Fall. Curriculog deadline will be Oct. 1, 2021. Course should be centered around the LDN learning outcomes and offer students particularly powerful opportunities for learning. We are especially (though not exclusively) interested in proposals that speak to the ways the issue of American racial inequities can be better addressed within your curriculum. Participants must be willing to share their course designs via electronic medium.
