Advisors

jkapellJon Kapell, Director of Campus Activities & Involvement
Jon is the Director for Campus Activities & Involvement at UNCW. He graduated from West Chester University in Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies. He went on to get his master of arts degree in Human Services Administration from Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. He is a part of this committee because he feels that a healthy university offers programs on the weekends just as much on the weekdays. He also enjoys working with the committee to plan and implement fun and innovative programs for the students at UNCW.

 Darion Bayles, Graduate Assistant for UNCWeekends

 Darion is the Graduate Assistant for the Campus Activities & Involvement Center at UNCW and primary adviser to UNCWeekends.  Darion graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise & Sports Science with a minor in  Psychology.  He is currently working on his Masters of Education in Higher Education at UNCW with plans to earn his Ph.D in  Health Psychology & work in collegiate athletics as a health psychologist. Darion enjoys working with UNCWeekends due to the  strong dedication and motivation of its team members to bring unique programming to the UNCW community.

Jessica Reich, Lead Facilitator

Born in Long Island, New York, Jess is a current junior at UNCW working on her Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. She plans to go to graduate school to receive a PhD in Social Psychology to eventually become a college professor. As the lead facilitator, she is responsible for running weekly meetings, coordinating the safety and smooth running of all UNCWeekends events and working directly with the adviser.  She loves working with UNCWeekends because its like one big family - full of laughter and fun! 

Sarah Traxler, Co-Marketing Coordinator

Sarah is a junior from Charlotte, NC majoring in Psychology with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. She plans on going to graduate school before pursuing a career that will satisfy her love of working with children. As the Co-Marketing Coordinator is responsible for promoting all UNCWeekends Events and managing the social media accounts. 

Julia Singer, Co-Marketing Coordinator 

Julia is a sophomore from Yardly, Pennsylvania in the Honors College majoring in Marine Biology with minors in sustainability and pre-law. With this, she wants to go into Environmental Law focusing in ocean policy. She also serves as the Homecoming Chair for ACE. As the the Co-Marketing Coordinator, she is responsible for promoting all UNCWeekends Events and managing the social media accounts. Her goal for this year is to get more people involved in UNCWeekends and integrate new and original programming! 

Cole Tillett, Office Assistant 

Cole is from Greenville, NC and a sophomore studying Business Administration with a concentration in Supply Chain Management. He is currently a member of the Honors College and serves on the Appropriations Committee on the Student Government Association. In the future, he hopes to work in an environment that allows him to work collaboratively with others. As the Office Assistant is responsible in assisting the adviser with all in-office duties as assigned and reporting notes on success rates of UNCWeekends events. 

Event Coordinators

The event coordinators are responsible for the preliminary planning of all UNCWeekend events. These individuals manage set up and break down of events, organizing the semester calendar and bring opinions to the weekly meetings on what went well and improvements for future events. 

Mary Steele -  Class of 2020, majoring in Recreation, Sports Leadership & Tourism Management from Columbus, Ohio. "I love Weekends because it is a great way to connect with old friends and make new friends in a fun and unique way!"

Maddie Miller - Class of 2020, majoring in Biology & Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience from Chapel Hill, NC. "I love Weekends because it is important to provide safe and fun events for people to enjoy." 

John Kocor -  Class of 2019, majoring in Geology and Geo-science from Swansea, Massachusetts. "I love Weekends because entertaining people is what I love to do!"  

Rebecca Martin - Class of 2019, double major in Psychology and French from Raleigh, North Carolina. "I love Weekends because it is a fun way for first years to get involved in the community and experience what UNCW has to offer!" 

Tara Candelaria - Class of 2020, majoring in Creative Writing from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. "I love Weekends because of the amazing events we create together; it is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of something big."
